Oftentimes, the truest strokes of brilliance are the subtlest, and thus the easiest to pass over without noticing. Well, OK – I have no idea how accurate that statement is. I just sorta felt like beginning with a sweeping generalization.
At second glance, though, I just might have been onto something, at least when it comes to sampled hip-hop production. Flipping an instantly-recognizable riff is one thing, but actually working diverse musical elements into a coherent whole is another – and when the results come together too well, few people notice just how impressive a feat you accomplished.
What got me thinking about this was (if you haven’t deduced from the headline) “Show Me Change,” the latest Booth feature from ArtOfficial (off their acclaimed, RefinedHype/DJBooth-sponsored mixtape The Payback.) The cut found the Miami natives borrowing a snippet of “Show Me What You Got,” a Just Blaze-produced standout off Jay-Z’s generally-panned Kingdom Come LP.
Positive Over Negative is a combination of traditional Hip Hop music. The album consist of Queens emcee K. Sparks on the mic and Spain producer DJ Bobby Bob on the production. Positive Over Negative is an excellent blend of authentic Hip Hop music that stretches the boundaries of conventional music. Positive Over Negative is now available on iTunes.

The Payback
First of all, thank you to everyone who has supported us since day one as well as those who found out about us last week! It’s been a hell of a journey, but The Payback is here (almost)!
Tomorrow at 9AM, The Payback will be available for download/stream here and at DJBooth.net. For free of course, and encoded as very high quality MP3s. We also included some goodies in there, so make sure to check em out.
A word of advice: In order to get the full experience, this project is meant to be downloaded and played loudly and repeatedly..lol. You wouldn’t show Avatar on a standard 13 inch TV, so don’t just play this thing in your laptop. Take it out for a ride.
The Release Party
If you’ve never been to an AO show. This is the one you want to pop your cherry with. Believe me, we’ll make your first time memorable. For the seasoned AO show go-ers. You don’t want to miss this one either. Expect the unexpected.
We got lights, we got cameras, and there will be action, lots of it. Lots of free stuff too. Free posters (limited!), free CDs, free entrance, and free chapstick. Just kidding on that last one.
This release is a big thank you to everyone. The concert go-ers, the listeners, the haters, the collaborators, and the city itself. Miami stand-up! And don’t ever say we didn’t give you nothing!!
The band will celebrate the release at Transit Lounge in downtown Miami on Friday, and they’re promising special guests and free copies of the new release.
Miami’s own hip-hop / jazz sextet, ArtOfficial, will release a new mixtape, The Payback, online Friday (April 23). And the best part? It’ll be absolutely free.
