For those of you living in South Florida, I’m sure the news has been bombarding you with a million opinions regarding the recent concert in Cuba, Paz Sin Fronteras (Peace Without Borders) where Juanes and a bunch of other international acts put together a massive open air concert for the people of Cuba. (You can read more about the concert here)
.
Predictable as ever, some Miamians got their panties all in a knot claiming that this concert somehow legitimizes the Cuban government. All hell has broken loose as opposing sides put civility aside to see who the loudest Cuban is (good luck with that). Now to be clear, this concert isn’t going to solve all the problems in Cuba, or any for that matter, but i think a small seed was planted and ideas can be powerful things given a good amount of time.
.
I wanted to share some of these counter-culture ideas that are coming out of Cuba in the form of music. Please keep in mind that speaking out against the Cuban government lands you in prison (if you’re lucky). With that said, enjoy the videos and all apologies to the non-Spanish speakers. You can thank my parents for a) discovering Youtube and b) discovering these videos.
